Indiana to South Dakota '98

Indiana to South Dakota, on the Harley of course!  Sturgis is my main vacation and one of the few times I get to ride the Harley.  Getting there is half the fun, maybe more.  These are just a few of the sights along this 1200 mile journey.

Crossing the Missouri River!

A favorite eating place

The trip to Sturgis via I-80, I-29, and I-90.

Click each small picture below for larger and additional pictures.

Along I-80 in Iowa is the familiar sign, clearly visible from the interstate, of Zooks Harley-Davidson in Des Moines.  But, this year - no sign!    I hear a tornado took it down.  After missing my exit, and turning around, I had a nice visit to this fine Harley dealer.  Of course, no trip to South Dakota would be complete without a stop in Mitchell and the famous Corn Palace!

Where is that familiar sign?
Zooks Harley-Davidson
The Corn Palace
Murals of corn.

Along I-90 in South Dakota is the beautiful and rugged Bad Lands.   Of course no trip is complete in this area without a stop at the highly advertised Wall Drug in Wall.  The hundreds of signs along the way just draw any traveler to this well know landmark.

Massive Rocks.
The Bad Lands
How many signs is enough?
Wall Drug, South Dakota.

The trip home was totally Interstate-free.

Scenic, South Dakota along highway 44.
Can you find the satellite dish?
Traveling home without use of our interstates, can add a lot of variety and different sights along the way.  The speed is a little more laid back and enjoyable.

The Iowa farms.
Don't see this old name much anymore.
So new, the letters are not installed.
The mighty Mississippi.
